Low complexity local dimming algorithm for high quality head up displays in automotive vehicles

We present a high image quality head up display (HUD) based on the local dimming liquid crystal (LCD). The proposed HUD provides white luminance to improve day-time visibility and low black cope with postcard effect during night by technique. To reduce computational complexity, pixel-based boosting values for pixel compensation are computed simple bi-linear interpolation, complex power functions implemented look-up tables, some multiplications replaced sums of shifted values, numbers tables multipliers reduced sequential process. simulation results algorithm 640×1280 LCD panel 10×22 LED backlight ensure higher peak signal-to-noise ratio than 40 dB larger reduction performance 73% over 7 images. In addition, improvement is verified images as well windshield. Maximum contrast windshield prototype system measured 16,088 cd/m2 342×106:1.
